The Chinese Central Government often emphasizes that candidates for Hong Kong’s Chief Executive must “Love China and Love Hong Kong”. This is very important. The five words “Love China Love Hong Kong” sound as if they are recorded and play out from different people’s mouth continuously. We have heard it over and over again. In fact, what is the feeling of Hong Kong people towards these five words?
In this exhibition, Phoebe Man will share “Love China Love Hong Kong Thick Toast” with the audience. To eat this toast is to internalize the feelings of love China, or does eat mean “destroy”? It is up to the audience to interpret. The exhibition will provide knives, jam and butter. The audience can cut the toast or spread jam and butter to cover the words. It is up to the audience’s creation. The exhibition will also provide a questionnaire for the visitors to write down their feelings and pin it on the wall; views can be exhibited immediately. This work helps discuss the meaning of “Love China and Love Hong Kong”.
